The Salle d’Armes, a successor to the18th and 19th century European school of arms, is a centre for instruction in the pure art and science of sword fighting, which preceded the modern sport of fencing.
The dynamic form practised at the school is not simply a contemplative and elegant art, but a practical and effective defence/attack system appropriate for the lethal affairs of the blade.
The form taught at the Salle d’Armes encompasses breathing, posture, and balance in motion. Practising the form, quickly affect the student’s every day life in the form of improved agility, power, efficiency and grace in movement. Focused self-awareness is heightened, keen and profound perception cultivated, and the multiple functions of body and mind are explored, expanded and fine-tuned. Disruptive thoughts, inner tension and conflicts are replaced by quiet cognition and the student develops the ability to form complex, coherent and clear strategic thought under pressure.
